About the Project

Water Horse is a customprinting ecommerce platform that allows users to design and order personalized products with ease. Users can upload their own artwork, adjust placement and positioning on products, preview the final output in real time, and place orders directly. In addition, the platform offers a design gallery where users can select premade designs and customize them before checkout.As the UI/UX designer, my role was to design an intuitive customization experience that balances creative freedom with a smooth, conversionfocused shopping flow.

The primary challenge was to design a powerful product customization experience that remains simple and user‑friendly. The platform needed to support design uploads, positioning controls, previews, and multiple ordering paths—without creating friction or confusion for first‑time users.

Understanding customization behavior and e‑commerce expectations

To shape the experience, I immersed myself in custom‑printing and print‑on‑demand platforms through focused research:

  • Analyzed leading custom printing and merchandise platforms

  • Studied user behavior around design uploads and personalization tools

  • Reviewed common pain points in product preview and customization flows

  • Benchmarked checkout and conversion patterns for made‑to‑order products

  • Explored trust factors for custom and non‑returnable items

This research helped define clarity, guidance, and feedback as key design principles.

Experience Strategy

Designing for creativity, control, and confidence

The experience strategy focused on empowering users while keeping the flow intuitive:

  • Step‑by‑step customization to reduce cognitive load

  • Clear entry points for “Upload Your Design” and “Choose from Gallery”

  • Real‑time visual feedback for design placement and scaling

  • Minimal distractions to keep focus on the product and design

  • Strong CTAs guiding users from creation to checkout

The goal was to make customization feel enjoyable rather than technical.

  • Easy design upload, positioning, and resizing controls

  • Clear pricing, quantity selection, and checkout flow for custom orders

Each screen was designed to ensure users feel confident in what they are creating and ordering.
